About Danilo

About me

We are here now, we are light that illuminates the darkness, we are energy of passage, we are explosions in the eyes, in the minds, in the hearts of others

Danilo Santinelli, Jesi, Italy, 1968

He attended the Art Institute of Ancona and then graduated in Visual Arts at DAMS at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy in Bologna.

In 1999 he began working as an editorial illustrator, his first publication was for the daily newspaper Il Manifesto.

Since 2000 he has worked as a freelancer dealing with illustration, advertising and record graphics, teaching and painting.

He teaches Illustration, Visual Perception and Art History at the ACCA Academy in Jesi.

He has taught Cinema, Photography and Television at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Macerata.

He currently has about 500 publications to his credit.

Currently I devote myself mainly to the activity of painting and writing, which for me are two poles of the same research. I also devote myself with increasing interest to teaching by providing useful tools for professional activity and discernment of the contemporary landscape. With the passing of time, the need for a strong stance with respect to what surrounds us has become more and more evident in me, hence my greater attention to teaching, painting and writing, all instruments through which I can express a communication and a stance in respect of the historical events with which we are confronted. For this reason, my site today hosts only my pictorial and essayistic research, which I publish in fragments in the blog on the site itself.

My research began in 1994, an investigation aimed at the representation of time that over the years has declined into several series:

IN DIVENIRE
Initially, that is from the mid-nineties, I focused on the representation of time, as it crosses differently the animated subjects (figures) and inanimate (landscapes). This is the reason why that production presents the dissolved and colored human subjects - a metaphor for their cardiac rapidity - and the slower and more lasting black and white landscape.

PASSING
Landscapes that show ways and roads, a metaphor, at the same time, of the path that each of us takes in our own lives and of the same path that we take through pictorial research.

WAR IS NOT ELSEWHERE
Its protagonists are children involved in war scenarios, but transposed in Italian and European squares, hence the title of the series.

DISSOLUTION - FUTURE DENIED
Takes up the same theme, but in it I felt the need to focus on their faces and looks.

FACTORY MEMORIES
The disused factory as a testimony of the social, working and historical reality of the previous century, a phantasmatic memory in an era that has now become digital and immaterial.

FROM THE WINDOW
Landscape views seen through windows that are a metaphor for the pictorial representation and vision that each of us has of reality.
